Whispers of Sand

Heavenly Foreshadowing

—Patricia

Grains too many to count
Darken and sink into vastness.
Temporary earthly eyes scout,
amazed they can’t contain endlessness.
Colors beyond description
This is all a glimpse of eternal salvation.

It is said, “Metaphors have a way of holding the most truth in the least space.” Not to be trifled with, a single metaphor can give birth to a whole lot of meaning. Searching for metaphors for life, we find one form of matter to be quite apt in exemplifying the essence of life- Sand.

Sand symbolizes the initial move towards joy, our mother ocean. We need to walk across the sand to reach the ocean, similar to how we’re all on a journey towards our destination. On the other hand, when somebody strolls on sand, the tinkling sensations he or she gets or when the sun hits the sand disturbs the skin, thereby deriving it to be the way we get slightly annoyed but are further relieved once we set our feet land in the tranquil ocean. We are troubled when we are barefooted, as, like we feel the essence of earth on our feet, we are faced with the pain and troubles that hit us hard, something we aren’t very comfortable with.

Sand is found under the ocean as well, so while the ocean waves deluge, it brings parts from all over the world. This invigourates that sand is the sole observer of all whereabouts. It conveys memories of the past with it and experiences new ones. Sands are similar to travelers, they don’t have a fixed spot. They set afoot and seek answers, explore fresh areas and interact with other forces of nature during this period.

Sand, when walked on, sticks onto people, or objects that roll in it. This is similar to how the objects we encounter, knowledge we gain, individuals we meet, affect our lives in what may seem to be paltry ways, however, there is a change within us, brought about by them, that we carry along with us, just like the sand.

Therefore, in the view of sand, life can be looked at in its entirety- the beauty, sorrows, pains, joys, obscurities, ambiguity and adventures.
